What you need to know about Liposuction
Fat deposits in certain areas simply cannot be lost through diet and exercise no matter how hard we try. An otherwise fit person can have unwanted fat in specific spots on the knees, thighs, hips, upper arms, abdomen or under the chin. That’s where liposuction has helped our patients.
Liposuction is the removal of unwanted fat cells. Fat deposits in certain areas simply can be difficult to remove through diet and exercise.
Thanks to the fully equipped, adjacent Private Hospital your liposuction can be performed as a Day Case. The procedure typically takes approximately an hour or so, and our patients can return home by the afternoon with overnight stays also available. The Day Surgery system provides extensive support during your recovery period, and you will be seen on the morning after your surgery with regular sessions during the recovery period.

Our Approach to Liposuction
Over the past decade, we have developed liposuction techniques that allow for more precise results. We are able to select the most appropriate technique for your body aiming to provide you with optimal contour improvement with as minimal swelling and bruising as possible.
Recovery after liposuction typically involves wearing a compression garment over any areas that have undergone liposuction for 6 weeks. We recommend no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for approximately 6 weeks following surgery. Most of our patients return to relatively normal activity and sedentary work after 1 week.
All surgery carries risks which are important to understand so that you make a well-informed decision. Complications associated with liposuction include skin irregularities such at dints/depressions, asymmetry, poor scarring, excessive loose skin, severe infection, bleeding, seroma formation (accumulation of fluid under the skin), abnormal skin pigmentation, deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the legs) and anesthetic complications.
This listing is not all-inclusive and patients may be at risk for additional complications depending on their past medical and surgical history. A thorough discussion will occur during consultation with your surgeon including ways to mitigate risks prior to surgery and steps taken to treat complications should they occur.
Is Liposuction right for you?
The purpose of liposuction is to re-contour the body by removing excess fat from specific areas. It is not designed to remove very large amounts of fat. In general, we can safely remove 1-3 litres of fat during surgery. The ideal candidate for liposuction is therefore at a close-to-normal body weight. Speak with one of our surgeons about your options to determine whether liposuction is appropriate for you.
Have you considered other body procedures?
At our Melbourne clinic, liposuction can be combined with abdominoplasty or breast lift. In addition, the fat harvested during your liposuction procedure can now be used for breast augmentation with fat transfer.
Have you heard about Micro Lipo?
Micro lipo refers to the removal of smaller areas of excess fat (for example from the hips or tummy) under local anaesthetic. Micro lipo is designed to treat areas about the size of your hand and is, we believe, a quicker and more effective alternative to non-surgical methods of fat removal such as ‘UltraShape’ and ‘CoolSculpt.’
