Avenue Aesthetic Surgery is here to help you make the informed choice

What you need to know about Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Droopy, puffy or sagging around the eyes is one of the natural signs of ageing. Often people do not like when the skin of their upper eyelids starts to sag, from an aesthetic point of view. It can also obscure your vision which is another result of ageing. Aesthetic eyelid surgery at Avenue Aesthetic Surgery can be performed to help improve these issues.

OUR APPROACH TO YOUR Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Surgery (or Blepharoplasty) removes excess skin and fat to restore your eye area to a smoother contour. Your eyelid surgery can be performed as a Day Case at the adjacent Windsor Private Hospital.

We pride ourselves on providing the highest standard of care before, during and after your eyelid surgery. The procedure usually takes approximately an hour and our patients can return home by the afternoon, with overnight stays also available.

Recovery involves using an ointment on the incision line for several days. Swelling and some bruising can be expected after surgery and will resolve over the following weeks. We recommend no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for approximately 4 weeks after surgery. Most patients typically return to relatively normal activity and sedentary work after 3 days.

All surgery carries risks which are important to understand so that you make a well-informed decision. Complications associated with blepharoplasty include bleeding, infection, skin numbness, difficulty closing eyes, dry eyes, lid lag (pulling down of upper eyelid), ectropion (outward rolling of lower eyelid), loss of vision, poor scarring, deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the legs) and anesthetic complications.

This listing is not all-inclusive and patients may be at risk for additional complications depending on their past medical and surgical history. A thorough discussion will occur during consultation with your surgeon including ways to mitigate risks prior to surgery and steps taken to treat complications should they occur.

We perform the following Eyelid Surgery Procedures:

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery removes the loose hood of excess skin from the upper eyelid. Once this excess skin is removed, it allows the eye to appear more open and creates a more ‘refreshed’ appearance.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery removes the wrinkled skin from the lower eyelids and also the fat pads that create bags under the eyes. Our Melbourne clinic uses an approach to Lower Eyelid Surgery to minimise visible scars.

Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery

Upper and lower eyelid surgery can be combined to achieve optimal aesthetic enhancement for the eye area. The benefits of combining these procedures are apparent both in terms of the aesthetic result and cost savings.

Eyelid Surgery for Asian Eyes

Eyelid surgery can also be used to create an upper eyelid crease. This ‘double eyelid’ procedure will create a more defined upper eyelid crease.

Blepharoplasty cannot remove crow’s feet or wrinkles. However, any of our eyelid surgeries can be combined with other procedures such as a browlift, facelift or non-surgical treatments to achieve complete facial rejuvenation. Talk with our surgeons about your options to determine what’s best for you.
